Crossing the Border with Slovakia
When traveling to Slovakia, it is important to be familiar with the entry rules and customs control requirements and to have all necessary documents ready.
Visa-Free Travel to Slovakia
Length of stay: up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa. Entry document: a biometric international passport issued to a citizen of Ukraine. The passport must be valid for the entire duration of the stay.
Documents that may be checked at the Slovak border
Biometric international passport (required).
Proof of the purpose of the trip: hotel reservation, invitation from relatives/friends, return tickets.
Proof of financial means—cash, bank card, traveler’s checks. (Specific amounts are not always officially specified, so it is recommended to have a reserve.)
Customs Control and Import of Goods into Slovakia
When crossing the Slovak (or Schengen) border, your documents and luggage may be inspected. Duty-free allowances (for entry from Ukraine or other non-EU countries):
Alcohol: For example, when entering the EU from non-member countries, the general limits apply—4 liters of wine and 16 liters of beer, or 1 liter of spirits with an alcohol content exceeding 22% by volume.
Tobacco: 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 g of tobacco—in accordance with the rules for importation into the EU from third countries.
Other goods: with a total value exempt from customs duties—current information is subject to change, so it is recommended to check before traveling.
Prohibited or restricted imports:
Weapons, fireworks, and certain types of knives.
Products of animal origin (meat, dairy products) without a special permit—EU rules for imports from third countries.
Medications containing narcotic substances without a prescription. (Specific regulations in Slovakia and the EU should be checked separately.)
Traveling with Children to Slovakia
Each child must have their own passport. If a child is traveling with only one parent or with other individuals, it is recommended to have a notarized consent form from the other parent or both parents (specifying the destination country and the duration of the trip).
Bringing Animals into Slovakia
An international veterinary passport (or equivalent document) is required, along with a microchip and a rabies vaccination. The animal must be clinically healthy and have the appropriate documentation. It is recommended to familiarize yourself in advance with the rules for bringing pets into Slovakia—specifically, the EU regulations.
Tips for Bus Passengers
Keep your documents and valuables with you, not in the luggage compartment. Be prepared for possible inspections not only at the Slovak border but also when transiting through other countries. Make sure your luggage does not contain any prohibited items.
